چکیده

We investigate theoretically a novel mechanism of transducing chemical energy into a directed force. A hypothetical motor protein is considered such that conformational changes induced by nucleotide binding and/or hydrolysis lead to asymmetric internal velocity uctu-ations. We demonstrate that these uctuations result in unidirectional motion if rectiied by protein friction. The motor protein force-velocity relationship and other characteristics are computed based on analogy with known molecular motors.

Motion of molecular motor ratcheted by internal fluctuations and protein friction

We investigate theoretically a novel mechanism of transducing chemical energy into a directed force. A hypothetical motor protein is considered such that conformational changes induced by nucleotide binding and/or hydrolysis lead to asymmetric internal velocity fluctuations. We demonstrate that these fluctuations result in unidirectional motion if rectified by protein friction. The motor protei...

Exact solution of a linear molecular motor model driven by two-step fluctuations and subject to protein friction.

We investigate by analytical means the stochastic equations of motion of a linear molecular motor model based on the concept of protein friction. Solving the coupled Langevin equations originally proposed by Mogilner et al. [Phys. Lett. A 237, 297 (1998)], and averaging over both the two-step internal conformational fluctuations and the thermal noise, we present explicit, analytical expressions...

Modified Couple Stress Theory for Vibration of Embedded Bioliquid-Filled Microtubules under Walking a Motor Protein Including Surface Effects

Microtubules (MTs) are fibrous and tube-like cell substructures exist in cytoplasm of cells which play a vital role in many cellular processes. Surface effects on the vibration of bioliquid MTs surrounded by cytoplasm is investigated in this study. The emphasis is placed on the effect of the motor protein motion on the MTs. The MT is modeled as an orthotropic beam and the surrounded cytoplasm i...

Locomotive and reptation motion induced by internal force and friction.

We propose a simple mechanical model of locomotion induced by internal force and friction. We first construct a system of two elements as an analog of the bipedal motion. The internal force does not induce a directional motion by itself because of the action-reaction law, but a directional motion becomes possible by the control of the frictional force. The efficiency of these model systems is s...

Diffusional limits to the speed of protein folding: fact or friction?

Proteins fold by diffusional motion, driven by molecular collisions but limited by frictional drag. We then expect that the timescale of simple diffusional motions of the polypeptide chain defines the minimum time, or the maximum rate, for folding phenomena in general. However, such ‘speed limits’ are very rapid. They far exceed the rate of folding that is observed in even the fastestfolding sm...
